The current high school English reading instruction still faces issues such as superficiality and fragmentation. In response to these challenges, this paper takes the integration of the activity-based approach to English learning with English reading teaching as the starting point. By examining the current state of reading instruction, it explores strategies for teaching reading under the activity-based approach. In the context of the new curriculum implementation, teachers can enhance the design of reading activities through deep text interpretation, clear learning objectives, the creation of authentic situations, layered activity design, and the use of assessments to promote teaching and learning. This will enhance the effectiveness of classroom reading instruction and promote the development of students’ English subject core competencies.
