Abstract

This paper investigates the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) settings within senior high schools. Unit theme teaching is an instructional approach that, guided by curriculum objectives, develops and reorganizes teaching content around thematic units. ICC plays a crucial role in enhancing cultural confidence and other related aspects. This paper analyzes and studies the cultivation of ICC based on the model proposed by Michael Byram. The study uses FLTRP B2U2 as a case example for analysis. The research findings indicate that clarifying unit themes, enriching cultural learning materials, organizing intercultural activities, and conducting ICC assessments are effective strategies for cultivating high school students’ ICC.
